Dila-Dila (Cynometra inaequifolia) showcasing its gorgeous shoots. This is roughly 2 years old on the ground now. Conservation status is "Vulnerable". Wood is suitable for flooring. ππ±π³
Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus) dropped on the ground before 2022 ends. ππ±π³
Conservation status is "Endangered". Its timber sold under the Keruing designation. Its gum is used locally as a waterproofing varnish. The tree itself is very useful for nitrogen fixing, erosion control, soil improvement, and watershed regulation.
Outplanted additional Seagrape plant (Coccoloba uvifera), from a marcotted mother tree. This is native to coastal beaches throughout tropical America and the Caribbean.
The fruits of the sea grape may be eaten raw, cooked into jellies and jams, or fermented into sea grape wine. ππ±π³
One of the few descendants of my Ayam Cemani chicken cross to some of my native hens resulting to various colors of feathers including pure white. Black meat chicken has a lower fat content, is also richer in nutrients than white meat and contains more iron and zinc.
I will breed this to my black meat rooster this coming year 2023.
New species outplanted/added in my native tree collection — Malakamias (Ailanthus triphysa). It is a large tree up to 45 m tall. The bole is up to 75 cm in diameter. It contains an aromatic resin. The tree is known as halmaddi in India, where its resin, also called halmaddi, may be used in incense. ππ±π³
Some more species will be outplanted before this year 2022 ends. Check BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM for more.
New addition to my collection for aesthetic purposes is the Sandpaper Vine (Petrea volubilis) also known as Queen's Wreath native to tropical Americas and the edible Limeberry (Triphasia trifolia) native to tropical southeastern Asia especially in Indonesia and the Philippines.
So Finally on the ground is my Kandiis (Garcinia sp.), first I thought the species is morella and then lateriflora but still doubtful, one thing is sure — it is a Garcinia. Took 6mos. to germinate and 9mos. on my nursery for a total of 15mos. before it
is outplanted today as my remembrance for this 2022 xmas day. ππ±π³
Ripe fruits of Kandiis, it taste sour and can be used as a souring agent or process into jams.
This is the latest native Kalingag (Cinnamomum cebuense) added in my collection. The tree is endemic to the island of Cebu but several trees have been found in neighboring Camotes Islands and Siquijor Island.
Tree growing involves constant monitoring of the outplanted seedlings. This is one of my 1 year old Betis (Madhuca betis) untangled from unwanted vines.
Slow growing hardwood used for general construction.
New species added in my collection — A potential source for Biofuel with lots of medicinal uses.
In the Philippine Cordilleras petroleum nut is locally known as apisang, abkel, abkol and da-il, is found among other trees like oak and other mossy forest species. It can also grow well with pine trees.
The fruits of the tree burn brightly when ignited, and can be used for illumination as torches or candles. Its fruit is also highly suitable for use in producing biofuel.
