Bay Tree (Laurus nobilis)

Young germinants of Bay tree (Laurus nobilis) which was brought to me by Mirco from Italy last October. This is native to the Mediterranean region and is used as bay leaf for seasoning in cooking. Take note that many other kinds of plants in diverse families are also called "bay" or "laurel", generally due to similarity of foliage or aroma to Laurus nobilis.

Mirco visited us last October and sadly the Quercus species he gave to me is somehow doomed.

For more interesting species of plant for spice you can search it at BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM.

Jewels-of-Opar (Talinum paniculatum)

Jewels-of-Opar (Talinum paniculatum) or commonly known as Talinum. Native to Latin America and the Caribbean. It has been introduced notably in Africa and Asia. Talinum paniculatum is often grown as an ornamental plant.

The leaves are edible and have been used in traditional medicine in Asia. Used in home medicine as a diuretic, healing, emollient, vulval and anti-infective, it is also consumed in salads. πŸ˜‹πŸŒ±❤️

BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM will propagate and outplant more of this in the coming months as an edible ground cover.

Joey Palm (Johannesteijsmannia altifrons)

Joey Palm (Johannesteijsmannia altifrons). It is a rare species found in mountain forest of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia; from an altitude of about 300 meters.

The plant genus is named after the botanist Johannes Teijsmann.

This might be one of the most spectacular and beautiful palm trees in the world. In the rainforest the enormous fan-shaped leaves grow from the ground up to heights of even 6 meters. 😍🌴

Alingatong (Dendrocnide meyeniana)

Alingatong (Dendrocnide meyeniana) also known as Lipang Kalabaw. The stinging hairs on the plant can cause people's skin pain, redness, burning or itching, which may last for several hours or even a day or two; in severe case, it may also cause skin inflammation.

The fruit and receptacle are edible, but the stalk is not, because it is covered with stinging hairs.

In Philippine traditional medicine, the tree's sap is prepared as a drink for improving the production of breast milk. Its roots and leaves can also be used as a diuretic.

More interesting herbal species are among in the collections of BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM.
