Lagikway (Abelmoschus manihot)

Gathering some leaves and young shoots of Lagikway (Abelmoschus manihot) for cooking. It blends well with many dishes, especially sinigang and tinola, because of their neutral taste. Leaves are used to thicken soup. 

Very high in Vitamin A, Iron and Magnesium. 😋🌱❤️

Peanut Butter fruit (Bunchosia grandulifera)

Peanut Butter fruit (Bunchosia grandulifera). The red ones are fully ripe and ready to eat. Birds are feasting on this fruit everyday. 😋🌱🌳

Harvested only a handful of fruits and leave some for the birds.

Olohaw (Nephelium melanomiscum)

Olohaw (Nephelium melanomiscum) seedlings acquired last year — November of 2022. Way before this fruit was featured in the BONSOROT Vlog I have already secured a few planting materials of this rare native fruit of the Philippines. 💕🌱🌳

Alibangbang (Piliostigma malabaricum)

One of my Alibangbang (Piliostigma malabaricum). Piliostigma malabaricum is a small tree species in the family Fabaceae. It was previously placed in the genus Bauhinia, but was moved because of the reorganization of the subfamily Cercidoideae and the tribe Bauhinieae. Native to the Philippines. Young leaves used as condiment. In the Philippines, commonly used as flavoring for meat and fish (sinigang and sinampalukan dishes). Excellent source of calcium; good source of iron. 😍🌱🌳

Dagang (Anisoptera aurea)

My lone Dagang (Anisoptera aurea) is finally put to the ground after nursing it for 3 years. This is the only survivor from a few batch of seeds that germinated more than 3 years ago — January of 2020. This will be the 22nd Dipterocarpus species on my collection. 😍🌱🌳

These are the bloated seeds look like that showing positive signs of life. 

Among the 4 seeds that is positive with life, only one survives.

Floody Tuesday

Raging waters from the upland due to heavy rains. This video was taken this afternoon around 4pm October 10, 2023. For 4 separate decades I bear witness to the destruction of the flood that passes through right here. If nothing has to be done, then worst is yet to come.

Will take time tomorrow to survey the aftermath of the flood. 

Ackee (Blighia sapida)

So 40 months gone by and my Ackee (Blighia sapida) is now almost 15ft high.  

Just slash and drop the acid ipil-ipil beside it in order to have a full sunshine on it.

If all goes well then I'll be watching it next year for its first fruit. 

From a 1 foot tall seedling 40 months ago when I outplanted this ackee tree. A national fruit of Jamaica.

Lemon Guava (Psidium littorale)

A year after of my Lemon Guava (Psidium littorale). This is under the full sun. 💕🌱🌳

Just a foot tall seedling outplanted last year October of 2022.

The fruit flavor is well balanced; sweet and tropical with a subtle sub-acid touch of tang.

BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM will soon try to propagate this specimen via cloning.

Cempedak (Artocarpus integer)

This is one of my budded Cempedak (Artocarpus integer). The weeds are choking it and depriving it from sunlight.

Freed at last! 

The famous fruit of Cempedak with a very strong aroma. The taste is a combination of Jackfruit, Marang and a hint of Durian.

Makopa (Syzygium malaccense)

Flowering time again of the Makopa (Syzygium malaccense) trees here. Lots of bees and other pollinators enjoying it. 🦋🐝🐞

The flowes are carpeting the ground.

This flowers are edible, can be used in salads.

Palau-baboy (Willughbeia sp)

Transferring the germinants of Palau-baboy (Willughbeia sp). 

Took atleast 15days on the common pot to germinate. 😍🌱💕

Lime Berry (Triphasia trifolia)

Additional edibles, this time it's the Lime Berry/Limonsito/Limonsitong Kastila (Triphasia trifolia). It is a spiny evergreen shrub growing to 3 m tall, native to tropical southeastern Asia especially in Indonesian islands and Philippines. 

It is grown for its edible fruit and can be eaten raw or cooked into jams or use as flavoring to cakes and other sweets. 😋🌱🌳

Tabo (Willughbeia sarawacensis)

Young Tabo (Willughbeia sarawacensis) rising with gorgeous leaves. These are specimen from Palawan mother plants. I do outplanted a couple of Tabo seedlings way back in 2019 but they are still on their way up to their host tree. Soon I will try to outplant these on different locations. 😍🌱❤️

Tabo is a creeping vine that needs a host tree to climb. This is from a specimen I outplanted in 2019, and the pic was taken in 2021. Slow growing but willing to wait.

Palosapis (Anisoptera thurifera)

One of the few Diptero species that is added in my native tree collection is this Palosapis

(Anisoptera thurifera). This will be the 21st Dipterocarpus species in the sanctum. 

Anisoptera thurifera is a large-sized tree reaching a height of 40-45 m and a diameter of 140-180 cm. Bole is straight, regular and unbuttressed. Wood is used for a variety of construction: shipbuilding, crates, flooring, oars, joinery, turnery, and manufacture of spools, barrels and baseball bats. 

Tree yields a resin called "Palosapis oil." It is used as illuminant, for varnishing and for caulking boats. Seeds are edible; eaten raw or roasted. 💕🌱🌳
