Kembayau (Dacryodes rostrata)

Kembayau (Dacryodes rostrata) fruits with seeds inside for extraction and germination. 

Fruit pulp is preserved in salt and fried as an appetizer with rice and porridge. Fleshy seed cotyledons are also edible. Studies have suggested antioxidant, anticancer, nutrient properties. 😍🌱🌳

This is native to the Philippines, Borneo, Sulawesi, Thailand and Vietnam.

Gorgeous flushing again of my Cinnamon. ❤️🌱🌳

It's almost 3 years ago since I acquired this specimen and is now approximately 8ft. tall.

 

Young new shoots are very attractive with a vibrant reddish to pink color.

Bubunao/Lambunao (Aglaia everetti)

Bubunao/Lambunao (Aglaia everetti) on the ground. This is endemic to the Philippines. The tree can grow up to 20 m tall and 70 cm in diameter. Its fruits contain edible aril around the seeds. 💕🌱🌳

This specimen is successfully germinated from a batch of seeds couple of years ago.

Mundo Golden Saba Banana

Got a small bunch of Mundo Banana and boiled it immediately for a snack. 

Bite size sweet fruit, dense and a little bit gluey. Taste perfect! 😋🍌

Palau-baboy (Willughbeia sp)

Palau-baboy (Willughbeia sp) seeds for germination. 

The fruits are much bigger compared to Palau (Willughbeia angustifolia) to which I have a couple of specimen outplanted 3 years ago. 😍🌱❤️

One of my specimen of Palau (Willughbeia angustifolia) outplanted July of 2020 and is now at the top of its host Lanzones tree covering the leaves on top.

Black Thorn Durian / D200

One of the last few planting spots left that I intentionally reserved is for this luxury variety of Durian. This is D200 or popularly known as the "Black Thorn" or Ochee in Chinese and Duri Hitam in Malay. 

Due to popularity and limited supply, both Black Thorn Durian and Musang King are considered premium durian varieties, commanding higher prices in the market. 

This is sought after for its exclusivity, complex flavor, and light, soft, and melting flesh. 😋🌱🌳

BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM will try to acquire some more planting materials for propagation of this luxurious variety of durian soon.

Hairy-leaf Apitong (Dipterocarpus alatus)

Nabunturan Native Tree Enthusiast founder Atty.Carlo Ancla pose for a pic of the specimen Hairy-leaf Apitong (Dipterocarpus alatus) which he generously shared to me before covid lockdown of March 2020, and it was outplanted July of 2021. 😍🌱🌳

From a tiny seedling acquired March 2020.

Outplanted it just 26 months ago.

Philippine Maple (Acer laurinum)

One of my Philippine Maple (Acer laurinum) at 17mos on the ground closer to 4ft now. At my elevation I considered it a fast growing. 😍🌱🌳

Gorgeous underleaf of the Phil.Maple. The matured leaves will also turned reddish creating an autumn-like appearance. 

From a roughly a foot tall last April 2022, it is now closer to 4ft despite growing on a much lower elevation here.

Buddha's Hand (Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis)

Outplanted my Buddha's Hand (Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis) or fingered citron. This is a marcott specimen hopefully it will produce early. ❤️🌱🌳

The pulp of fingered citron is so aromatic that it is used predominantly in China and Japan for perfuming rooms and clothings. The pulp is edible and can be candied.

Himbabao or Alukon (Allaeanthus luzonicus)

Outplanted my replacement for my Himbabao or Alukon (Allaeanthus luzonicus) or Birch Flower in English. 

Native to the Philippines and can be found in thickets and second growth forests, at low and medium altitudes.

Flower spikes are edible; used in meat and vegetable dishes like pinakbet and bulanglang. When cooked, the flower becomes gooey and slimy like okra. Flowering season extends from February to April. Aside from its culinary use, the fibrous bark of Himbabao is used in making ropes. ❤️🌱🌳

Mambog (Mitragyna speciosa)

My 2 year old Mambog (Mitragyna speciosa). Its leaves are used for fever, coughs, malaria, diarrhea and as tonic. 

Studies have suggested analgesic, sedative, antidiabetic, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antioxidant, antipyretic, antiproliferative properties. ❤️🌱🌳

Hagis (Syzygium tripinnatum)

Seeds of Hagis (Syzygium tripinnatum) for germination. 

Its fruit can be processed into juice, jam or jelly. In the wild, it's a favorite food tree for bats and birds. A rare, edible fruit from the Philippines. 💕🌱🌳

Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus)

Leaf flushing of Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus) thrice already since outplanted last December 31, 2022 with a height of 1 foot tall. It's approximately at 3ft now.  😍🌱🌳

Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora)

Busy Bee on Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora) flowers. 

Its tender leaves, flowers and pods are used as vegetable and considered excellent source of vitamin C and calcium. Seeds are rich in protein. The dried leaves are used as tea and is considered to have antibiotic, antihelminthic, antitumour and contraceptive properties.
