Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz is sending 100 tons of dates for Filipinos in time for the observance of the Ramadan fasting month, which is expected to start tentatively on Aug. 11 and to last until Sept. 10, depending on the sighting of the new crescent moon. Every month of the Islamic calendar, being based on the lunar calendar, starts with the sighting of the new moon.
Ambassador Abdullah Ibrahim Al Hassan of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the Philippines relayed the coming donation of dates to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). NCMF Secretary Bai Omera D. Dianalan-Lucman said she met with the Saudi envoy last week during which he relayed the donation of dates.
