Air Yam (Dioscorea bulbifera)

One of my climber here is this Air Yam (Dioscorea bulbifera). Dioscorea bulbifera bulbils are used in the treatment of Piles, dysentery, syphilis, ulcers, cough, leprosy, diabetes, asthma, and cancer. It is a raw material for contraceptives, and it is one of the most consumed yam species especially in West Africa.

Brazilian Dutchman's Pipe (Aristolochia gigantea)

On the ground is a vigorous evergreen climber with cordate heart-shaped leaves and spectacular fragrant flowers. This is the Giant Pelican Flower also known as Brazilian Dutchman's Pipe (Aristolochia gigantea). Native to Brazil, Costa Rica and Panama. πŸ˜πŸŒ±πŸ’•

Makaasim (Syzygium nitidum)

Turning 2 years old next month November, this Makaasim (Syzygium nitidum) is a slow growing. Typical characteristic of a hardwood. ❤️🌱🌳



Outplanted from approximately 1 foot tall seedling November of 2022, and is now at 4 feet after 2 years in the ground.

Nam-nam (Cynometra cauliflora)

This Nam-nam (Cynometra cauliflora) will be 3 years old on the ground next month. This is native to Malaysia. The pod is edible, with aromatic and juicy yellow pulp, and relatively large seeds. 😍🌱🌳



Fruits of Nam-nam are kidney-shape.

Fruit of our 10 year old Calabash tree (Crescentia cujete). In the Philippines, Crescentia cujete is also referred to as "Miracle Fruit". Tiaong (Shorea ovata)

Replacement of my Tiaong (Shorea ovata) that was damaged by the El NiΓ±o this year. It was already 4 years old but it didn't survive the drought. The new one was outplanted beside the dried stump of the fallen juvenile specimen. The 4 years is wasted but It's never too late for the new one. πŸ’•πŸŒ±πŸŒ³

Stinking Toe (Hymenaea courbaril)

One of the rarest in my exotic fruit collection is Jatoba also known as Stinking Toe (Hymenaea courbaril). Common in Central and South America, its hard fruit pods have edible dry pulp surrounding the seeds. Its sap, called animé, is used for incense, perfume, and varnish. It is a hardwood that is used for furniture, flooring, and decoration. 😍🌱🌳

Available!

Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora)

Young germinants of Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora) also known as Hummingbird tree. This came from the matured fruit pod to one of my surviving 4 year old Katuray tree. 



I intentionally left some flowers to develop into pods so I can propagate. Most of the time I used the flowers for cooking. ❤️🌱🌳

Talon-igot (Syzygium macgregorii)

New species on the ground —Talon-igot (Syzygium macgregorii). Flowering native tree species with edible fruits. πŸ’•πŸŒ±πŸŒ³



Fruits of Talon-igot are small and dark in color. 



Flowers are white and is a magnet to pollinators.

Mali-mali (Leea guineensis)

Outplanted a new species in my native tree collection — Mali-mali (Leea guineensis), is a small tree native to the Philippines. 



The plant is sometimes gathered from the wild for local medicinal use. It is also commonly grown as an ornamental in many areas of the tropics. 😍🌱🌳

Velvet Apple

Velvet Apple locally called Mabolo, a fruit of Kamagong tree (Diospyros blancoi). These trees are planted in the 70's, so it's approximately 50 years old. 😍🌱🌳



Fruits littered all over underneath the mother tree.



The trunk of the 50 year old Kamagong tree.



The canopy is not wide as it is only a medium size tree. This is good for wind breakers because it is deeply rooted.

Wild fruit — Bago-Santol

So finally the "Baga-aw" or "Bago-Santol" seeds are showing signs of life. The fruit is edible but needs proper identification of the species. Another wild edible fruit hiding in the forest of Mindanao. ❤️🌱🌳

The flesh inside is soft and creamy.
