Tindalo (Afzelia rhomboidea)

One of my favorite species with high quality wood is Tindalo (Afzelia rhomboidea). This is a 3ft specimen that's sitting in my nursery for quiet a long time and decided to outplant it instead of rebagging. 💕🌱🌳

Tiger Bamboo (Bambusa maculata)

Lately I have shown interest in propagation of this Tiger Bamboo (Bambusa maculata). 

This is used extensively in Indonesia for furniture hence it also called sometimes as "Indonesian Bamboo" or locally we call it "Batik" due to its unusual mottled pattern of brown spots spread over the whole culm when dries. 😍🌱❤️

Sibucao (Caesalpinia sappan)

Pruning of Sibucao (Caesalpinia sappan). A proven medicinal plant. My original mother tree was outplanted 12 years ago and produces lots of offspring already. 💕🌱🌳

Twice a year we do the pruning of the Sibucao tree and let new branches grow to harvest more wood in the future.

 

Cutting the trunk of Sibucao into desired sizes and sundried for 2 days. 

A few chips of wood boiled in 1 liter of water, cool off and it should be ready for drinking.

Camia (Hedychium philippinense)

Young germinants of Camia (Hedychium philippinense). 

My specimen produces its first ever set of flowers last May 2023 and eventually turned into a ripe pods with some seeds. 

The mother plant itself is grown from seeds at BORIS PRIVATE SANCTUM more than 3 years ago. 

Dabai (Canarium odonthophyllum)

My 3 year old Dabai (Canarium odonthophyllum) at approximately 15ft high now.  

This is native to Borneo where its fruits is a prized seasonal delicacy and dedicated a festival — Pesta Dabai, held annually since 2018.

Dabai fruit claimed by others with the highest fat content among fruits, much higher than Durian and Avocado. 😍🌱🌳

Cranberry Hibiscus (Hibiscus acetosella)

Frequent pruning of Cranberry Hibiscus or African Rosemallow also known colloquially as False Roselle (Hibiscus acetosella). 

This is a perennial plant mostly known for its slightly sour or pleasantly tart young leaves which are commonly used as a vegetable, either raw or cooked. Flowers can be used to make teas. 👍🌱💕

Curran's Lipote (Syzygium curranii)

Dropped my 2nd Curran's Lipote (Syzygium curranii). The other one was outplanted last April 2023. 

Syzygium flowers are simply amazing.

Fruits are edible. 💕🌱🌳

White Lauan (Shorea contorta)

Outplanted some additional White Lauan (Shorea contorta) at the flooded area where some of the juvenile trees sustained minor damages. These will be a back-up species just incase in a worst case scenario those previously outplanted will be uprooted by the raging water.

White Lauan are straight bole and self-pruning Dipterocarpus species. Conservation Status : Least Concern.

Alagaw (Premna odorata)

Firstime to try the leaves of Alagaw (Premna odorata) for cooking "paksiw". Unique taste due to its yellowish-green aromatic essential oil. 

Alagaw has many health benefits. Studies have suggested antimicrobial, antiviral, cardiotonic, anticoagulant, hepatoprotective, antitubercular, antitumor, antimutagenic, anti-parasitic, antioxidant properties.
